Everyone Needs a Fight Song!
To stand tall in this world, you need the strength of perseverance!
Maurice Randall
Listening to the radio today, I heard Rachel Platten singing her Fight Song. I thought; do we all need a fight song or is it that we all need the encouragement for self assurance to keep us on track?
The chorus for the song goes:
This time this is my fight song
Take-back-my-life song
Prove-I’m-alright song
My power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong
I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care
If nobody else believes
Cause I’ve still got
A lot of fight left in me
Do we all need a fight song? I think we do and it seems 69,345,510 people do as well (YouTube views as of today)! I am using the word fight sparingly here though. The fight is not for survival, or even to fight someone else, but the fight I am referring too and I think Rachel is referring to is the one thing that gives you focus to continue doing what you are doing.
Perseverance is the key to any successful enterprise and that requires you to be strong in the good times and stronger when you are at your most vulnerable too. The notion to keep going when it is just you standing in a desert with no one else around, no one to talk to and no one who seems to care!
That is the fight song’s message. To keep taking the next step, and the next step so you see that you have taken 2 steps, then another and another still and you are now 4 steps away from where you were feeling low.
We all experience that feeling at different points in our lives, the feeling that all is coming to an end, the failure feelings and the ‘no where to turn feelings’ but there is always something that pulls you from yourself and drags you one step further.
This morning, the Fight Song gave me another step in my blog writing, another idea for my book and a little bit of strength to be strong in the midst of the desert. I have always been a fan of Monty Python and their song Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. The middle verse goes:
If life seems jolly rotten
There’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you’re feeling in the dumps
Don’t be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle
– that’s the thing.
And…always look on the bright
side of life…
(Whistle)
Life is amazing, beautiful, scary and lonely all at once and in different measures, it just depends on what you are focussing on right now that will determine how you feel. To choose to focus on something positive, like a song, or a whistle, rather than focus on the failure or hurt, will always push you forward to the next step.
Today, Rachel is pushing all those millions of viewers and listeners forwards and onto their next step. Not with anger, but with a change of focus – with the idea that you can make it and do it.
So don’t worry what other say, do or how they act, they are in the same world you live in, it’s up to you now and we all know you’ve “got a lot of fight left in” you!
Today, Act Anyway – regardless of those feelings!
